Discover more about Dinh Cậu

Dinh Cau, also known as the Cau Temple, is a must-see cultural and spiritual landmark on Phu Quoc Island. Located at the mouth of the Duong Dong River, this colorful temple has been a beacon for seafarers for centuries. Legend says that Dinh Cau was built in the 17th century after a miraculous event. During a storm, a rock formation emerged from the sea, guiding fishermen to safety. Grateful for this divine intervention, they constructed a small shrine, initially called Long Vuong Shrine, which eventually became Dinh Cau. The temple is dedicated to the Princess of Jade and the two Guardians, Cau Tai and Cau Quy, who are believed to protect fishermen from the perils of the sea, ensuring their safe return. Over the years, Dinh Cau has undergone renovations, most recently in 1937 and 1997, to become the spacious and striking temple it is today. Its traditional Vietnamese architecture features a main hall where visitors can pay their respects and admire the intricate details. The temple is especially lively during the annual Dinh Cau Festival, held on the 15th and 16th of the 10th lunar month, featuring traditional ceremonies, cultural activities, and prayers for good weather and bountiful harvests. Beyond its spiritual significance, Dinh Cau offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding sea and coastline. The adjacent Dinh Cau Lighthouse adds to the picturesque scenery, especially during sunset.
