Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving to Chirripó National Park, you will need to head towards the town of San Isidro de El General. From there, take the Route 2 (Interamericana) towards the town of Pérez Zeledón. After reaching Pérez Zeledón, follow signs to the Chirripó National Park entrance located in the town of San Gerardo de Rivas. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for mountain roads as some areas may be steep and challenging.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  To reach Chirripó National Park via public transportation, take a bus from San José to San Isidro de El General. Buses leave regularly from the Terminal 7-10 in San José. Once in San Isidro, transfer to a local bus heading to San Gerardo de Rivas. The bus will drop you off at the entrance of Chirripó National Park. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance and plan for a possible wait time.

• Hiking

  Once you are in Chirripó National Park, begin your hike from the park entrance in San Gerardo de Rivas. Follow the main trail towards Laguna Ditkevi. The hike will take approximately 5-7 hours depending on your pace and fitness level. Make sure to carry enough water, snacks, and a map of the park. The trail is well-marked, but it is advisable to download a GPS app or bring a physical map in case of poor signal.

• Costs

  Be aware that there is an entrance fee for Chirripó National Park, which is approximately $10 for international visitors and $5 for Costa Rican citizens. Additionally, if you opt for guided hikes, prices may vary based on the tour provider.
