Car
If you are driving, head towards Salzburg city center. From the A1 motorway, take the exit towards Salzburg-Mitte. Follow the signs for 'Altstadt' (Old Town). Once in the city center, park at one of the public parking garages such as 'Altstadt Garage' or 'Linzer Gasse Garage'. From the parking garage, walk towards the Mönchsberg, where the fortress is located. The walk will take approximately 15-20 minutes uphill to reach the fortress entrance.

Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, take tram line 1 or 3 towards 'Salzburg, Altstadt' and get off at the 'Hauptbahnhof' (Main Train Station) stop. From there, you can either walk (approximately 30 minutes) or take bus number 25 towards 'Puch' and get off at 'Mönchsberg'. After disembarking, follow the signs to the fortress which is a short walk uphill. Alternatively, you can also take the funicular railway from the base of Mönchsberg, which provides a direct route to the fortress. The funicular ticket costs around €3.50 one-way.

If you're already in the Old Town area of Salzburg, you can reach Fortress Hohensalzburg on foot. Begin at the Cathedral Square (Domplatz) and walk towards the east side of the square. Follow the path that leads up the hill towards the fortress. The walk is steep but offers beautiful views of the city and takes approximately 20-30 minutes to reach the fortress entrance.
