Car
If you are starting from Djupivogur, head northwest on Route 1 (the Ring Road) toward Egilsstaðir. After approximately 13 kilometers, turn left onto Route 965 toward Eyjólfsstaðir. Continue for about 5 kilometers, where you will see signs for Nykurhylsfoss (Sveinsstekksfoss). There is a small parking area near the waterfall where you can safely park your vehicle.
Public Transportation
From Djupivogur, take the local bus service to Egilsstaðir. Buses typically run a few times a day. Once you arrive in Egilsstaðir, you will need to rent a car or use a taxi to reach Nykurhylsfoss, as public transport options are limited in this rural area. The taxi ride from Egilsstaðir to Nykurhylsfoss will take about 30 minutes and will cost approximately ISK 10,000 - 15,000.
Hiking
If you are adventurous and already in the vicinity, you can hike to Nykurhylsfoss from nearby hiking trails. The most common route starts from the parking area near Eyjólfsstaðir. Follow the marked hiking paths, which lead you through beautiful landscapes toward the waterfall. This hike takes approximately 1-2 hours, depending on your pace.
