From the centre of Athlone, start at the Athlone Castle located on Castle Street. Head south on Castle Street towards the River Shannon. Cross the bridge over the river and continue onto Church Street. After a short walk, you will reach the junction with the N61. Turn right onto the N61, and then take the first left onto the Canal Walk. Follow the Canal Walk, and you will see signs guiding you to Shannon Banks Nature Trail. The trail entrance will be on your left.
