Travel Guide to Hakama Karasujima Lava Expedition Road

Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from central Kagoshima, head east on Route 3 (Kagoshima Bay Road) towards Sakurajima. Follow the signs for Sakurajima Ferry Terminal. After you reach the ferry terminal, take the Sakurajima Ferry (approximately 15 minutes, cost is around 200 yen one way) to Sakurajima island. Once on Sakurajima, continue on Route 58. Follow the signs for Hakama Karasujima Lava Expedition Road. It is located at 1772 Sakurajimayokoyamacho, Kagoshima, 891-1419, which is a short drive from the ferry terminal.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Hakama Karasujima Lava Expedition Road using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Kagoshima Chuo Station to the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal. Buses run frequently and the fare is approximately 200 yen. Once you arrive at the ferry terminal, take the Sakurajima Ferry (around 15 minutes, also about 200 yen one way). After disembarking, you can catch a local bus that goes towards Hakama Karasujima. Ask the bus driver to stop at Hakama Karasujima Lava Expedition Road, which is located at 1772 Sakurajimayokoyamacho, Kagoshima, 891-1419.

• Taxi

  For a more direct route, consider taking a taxi from Kagoshima city center to the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal. The taxi fare will be around 1,500 to 2,000 yen. After taking the ferry (15 minutes, 200 yen), you can either take another taxi from the ferry terminal directly to Hakama Karasujima Lava Expedition Road, or you can opt for the local bus as described earlier.
