Getting There

    From Kyoto city, take the R1 road heading towards Otsu. Follow the signs for Lake Biwa and Enryaku-ji Temple. The temple is located at 4220 Sakamotohonmachi, Otsu, Shiga 520-0116. The drive takes approximately 30 minutes depending on traffic. Note that there is parking available at the temple, but it may incur a small fee.

  • Public Transportation - Train and Cable Car

    From Kyoto Station, take the JR Biwako Line towards Otsu Station. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once at Otsu Station, transfer to the Eizan Cable Car at the nearby cable car station. The cable car ride up to Enryaku-ji Temple takes about 10-15 minutes and offers stunning views. The cable car ticket costs approximately 800 yen one-way. Upon arriving at the top, follow the signs to Enryaku-ji Temple, which is just a short walk away.

  • Public Transportation - Bus

    From Kyoto Station, take the bus (Bus No. 59) towards Hieizan. The bus ride takes about 60 minutes. Get off at the 'Enryaku-ji' bus stop, and from there, it’s a short walk to the temple entrance. The bus fare is around 1,000 yen. Please check the bus schedule in advance as service may vary.
