Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, head towards Otsu city from the center of Kyoto. Take the Kyoto Higashi Bypass (Kyoto East Bypass) towards Otsu, and then merge onto Route 161. Continue on Route 161 and follow the signs for Hieitsuji. The temple is located at 2 Chome-4-17 Hieitsuji, which should take approximately 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. There is parking available near the temple, but it may be limited during peak times.

  • Train and Bus

    For public transportation, take the JR Kosei Line from Kyoto Station to Hieizanguchi Station. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Hieizanguchi Station, exit the station and take bus number 22 towards Hieizan/Enryakuji. Get off at the Hieitsuji bus stop. From there, it is a short 5-10 minute walk to Shoju-raigo-ji Temple. Be sure to check the bus schedule as services may be limited, especially in the evenings.
