The Enigmatic Statue of Izumo-no-Okuni

Getting There

• Public Transport

  If you are starting from Kyoto Station, take the Karasuma Subway Line towards Kokusaikaikan. Get off at the 'Kawaramachi' station (about 15 minutes). Exit the station and walk south along Kawaramachi Street for approximately 10 minutes until you reach the intersection with Shijo Street. Turn right onto Shijo Street and continue walking for about 5 minutes until you reach the Kamo River. The Statue of Izumo-no-Okuni is located near the riverbank in the Higashiyama Ward, specifically at Kawabatacho, which is about a 5-minute walk from the river.

• Walking

  From Gion, one of the most famous districts in Kyoto, walk towards the Kamo River. Head north on Hanamikoji Street, then turn right onto Shijo Street. Continue east until you reach the river. The statue is located along the river at Kawabatacho, Higashiyama Ward, approximately a 15-minute walk from Gion.

• Public Transport

  If you are near the Kyoto Imperial Palace, take the Kyoto City Bus #101 or #201 from 'Kitaoji' bus stop towards Kyoto Station. Get off at 'Kawabatacho' bus stop (about 30 minutes). From the bus stop, walk south along Kawabatacho Street for about 5 minutes, and you will arrive at the Statue of Izumo-no-Okuni.

• Public Transport

  From the Arashiyama area, take the JR Sanin Line from 'Saga-Arashiyama' station to 'Kyoto' station (about 20 minutes). From Kyoto Station, switch to the Karasuma Subway Line and follow the previous instructions to reach the statue.
