Getting There

  • Ferry and Bus

    To reach the Portrait of a Shout Monument, begin by taking the Sakurajima Ferry from Kagoshima Port. Ferries depart frequently, every 15-20 minutes, 24 hours a day. The ferry ride takes approximately 15 minutes and costs ¥250 for adults. Upon arrival at Sakurajima Port, transfer to the Sakurajima Island View Bus. This loop bus operates every 30 minutes and stops at major sightseeing spots, including Akamizu Observatory Square where the monument is located. A one-day pass costs ¥500. Alternatively, local buses are also available. Bus fare is approximately ¥500, and the journey to the monument takes around 20 minutes.

  • Car

    If driving from Kagoshima, take Route 3 south towards the Sakurajima Ferry terminal. The ferry ride takes about 15 minutes. The cost for a car and driver is approximately ¥1700 one way for cars 3-4 meters long, or ¥2350 for cars 4-5 meters long. After disembarking on Sakurajima, follow Route 1 and signs to the Portrait of a Shout Monument, located at 3629-3 Sakurajimaakamizucho. Parking is available near Akamizu Observatory Square.
