Discover more about Nagahama Castle Historical Museum

Nagahama Castle Historical Museum is a reconstructed castle that serves as a museum dedicated to the history of Nagahama and its most famous lord, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Originally built by Hideyoshi in 1575, the castle was his first stronghold and an early example of advanced castle town development. After the Toyotomi clan's fall, the castle was dismantled, with materials used for Hikone Castle and local temples. The current castle was rebuilt in 1983 based on Azuchi-Momoyama period castle designs, with donations from the public. Inside, the museum displays artifacts related to Hideyoshi and Nagahama's history. Exhibits include a folding screen depicting the Battle of Shizugatake and statues of Sengoku period warriors. The fifth floor features an observation deck with panoramic views of Lake Biwa and the surrounding area. The surrounding Hō Park is also known as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots.
