Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from Kathmandu Durbar Square, head southeast on Bhaktapur Durbar Square Road. Continue straight for about 1 kilometer until you reach the intersection with Kirtipur Road. Turn left onto Kirtipur Road and walk for about 500 meters. Look for the signs directing you towards Mahabouddha Stupa. Continue straight until you reach the stupa, which will be on your left.

    From Thamel, walk towards the Ratna Park area. Head southeast on Tridevi Marg and continue straight to the intersection at the Nepal Tourism Board. Turn right onto Durbar Marg and proceed straight until you reach the junction with Bhaktapur Road. Turn left onto Bhaktapur Road and continue walking for about 2 kilometers. Look for signs indicating Mahabouddha Stupa, which will be located on your right.

    If you are near Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple), begin your journey by heading down the steps towards the main road. Once you reach the road, turn left and walk along the road for approximately 1.5 kilometers. You will pass several local shops and eateries.     Starting from the Boudhanath Stupa, walk south towards the principal road (Ring Road). When you reach the Ring Road, turn left and walk along it for about 1.5 kilometers.
