From anywhere in Hood River, head to the nearest bus stop. Look for the Columbia Area Transit (CAT) bus service. You can take Route 2 towards The Dalles. Ask the driver to drop you off at the stop closest to the entrance of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The ride should take about 30 minutes. Once you get off, follow the signs towards the scenic area.

Rent a bicycle from a local shop in Hood River. Head south on Oak Street towards the waterfront. Continue on the riverfront path which leads you to the Historic Columbia River Highway. Follow the highway eastward, which will take you to the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The ride will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace.

If you are up for a long walk, start from downtown Hood River and head east on Oak Street. Continue straight until you reach the historic Columbia River Highway. Turn right and walk along the highway. It’s about a 7-mile walk to the entrance of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated!
