Car
From Smith Rock State Park, head south on Smith Rock Way toward the intersection with Highway 97. Turn left (south) onto Highway 97. Continue on Highway 97 for approximately 30 miles. Merge onto US-26 W toward Portland. Continue on US-26 W for about 50 miles until you reach the town of Sandy. Take the exit toward OR-35 S, and follow OR-35 S for about 20 miles until you reach the eastern edge of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Look for signs indicating access points to the scenic area.

Public Transportation
From Smith Rock State Park, you will need to first travel to Redmond, Oregon. You can use a local taxi service or rideshare app to get to the Redmond Transit Center. Once at the Redmond Transit Center, take the Cascades East Transit bus route 20 to Bend. From Bend, transfer to the bus route 99, which travels toward Portland. Ensure to check the bus schedule for timings. After arriving in the Portland area, you can take a local transit service or rideshare to access the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

For the adventurous, biking from Smith Rock State Park to the Columbia River Gorge is possible but requires good planning. Begin by heading southwest on Smith Rock Way to connect with Highway 97. Follow the same route as the car option but be prepared for a long ride of over 75 miles.
