Start at the center of The Dalles, near the Public Library on E 4th St. Walk east on E 4th St, and turn left onto Union St. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with E 12th St. Turn right onto E 12th St and follow it until it curves into Chenowith Loop Rd. This road will take you towards the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, which is a good stop for information about the gorge. From here, you can catch a shuttle bus to various points in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

Rent a bicycle from a local shop in The Dalles. Begin your ride from downtown, heading south on E 2nd St. Follow the bike lanes along E 2nd St until you reach the Columbia River. Be prepared for some elevation changes as you approach the gorge.
