Travel Guide to Welimada Range Forest

Getting There

• Car

  From Horton Plains National Park, exit the park via the main entrance. Turn right onto the A7 highway heading towards Nuwara Eliya. Continue on this road for approximately 15 km. Look for signs indicating Welimada, and take the turn onto Ohiya Road. Drive along Ohiya Road for about 5 km until you reach the Welimada Range Forest, located at the coordinates RV7M+468, Ohiya Rd, Rahangala. Make sure to have a GPS or a reliable map app for accurate navigation.

• Public Transportation

  From Horton Plains National Park, walk to the nearest bus stop located near the park entrance. Take a bus heading towards Nuwara Eliya. The fare is approximately 50 LKR. After about 30 minutes, get off at the Nuwara Eliya bus station. From there, you can catch a local bus towards Welimada or a tuk-tuk. The tuk-tuk fare to Welimada Range Forest is around 500 LKR and will take about 20 minutes. If you choose the local bus option, ensure to ask the driver for the stop nearest to Welimada Range Forest.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Horton Plains National Park. The taxi ride will take approximately 30 minutes. It’s advised to negotiate the fare beforehand; expect to pay around 1500 LKR for a one-way trip to Welimada Range Forest. Ensure that the taxi driver is familiar with the location, RV7M+468, Ohiya Rd, Rahangala, to avoid any confusion.
