Public Transport
To reach Puigmal using public transport, take a train from Barcelona to Ribes de Freser or Planoles. From Ribes de Freser, transfer to the Vall de Núria rack railway (Cremallera). A combined Renfe (train) + Cremallera ticket (TreNatura) is available and is cheaper than buying tickets separately. Check the Vall de Núria website for Cremallera fares and schedules. From Planoles or Ribes de Freser, you can take a taxi to a trailhead, with fares ranging from €20-€30. The TreNatura combined train and Cremallera ticket costs approximately €33.50 for a return trip.

If driving, navigate to Planoles or Err. From either village, follow signs towards the Puigmal hiking trails. Parking is available near the trailheads and is generally free, but can be limited during peak season. Be aware that roads leading to the mountain can be narrow and winding, especially in winter. There are no tolls on the immediate final approach.

From the parking areas at the base of the hiking trails, the final approach to the summit of Puigmal is on foot. Follow the marked trails, which vary in difficulty. The most popular route is a steep, rocky climb that typically takes 3-4 hours to reach the top. Ensure you have sturdy hiking boots and are prepared for varying weather conditions. There are no fees associated with hiking the trails.
