    Getting There

    Driving

    To reach Observation Point, navigate to the East Mesa Trailhead. From Springdale, drive approximately 45 minutes to Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort. Continue past the resort on North Fork Road, following signs for the East Mesa Trailhead. The road becomes a dirt road, which may be rough. Parking at the trailhead is limited. An alternative is to park at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort and take their shuttle to the trailhead.

    Shuttle

    Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort offers a shuttle service to the East Mesa Trailhead for a fee. Check in at the main building to board the shuttle. The shuttle drops off passengers about 0.5 miles from the trailhead. Contact East Zion Adventures for current hours and to reserve a spot. Parking at Zion Ponderosa is free for shuttle users.

    Local tips

    The East Mesa Trail is generally open year-round, but check conditions, especially in winter, as snow can limit vehicle access.
    Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and sturdy hiking shoes.
    Arrive early at the East Mesa Trailhead to secure parking, or utilize the shuttle service from Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort.
    Consider visiting during the spring or fall for milder temperatures and fewer crowds.

    Observation Point stands tall at the north end of Zion Canyon, within Zion National Park, Utah. This 6,507-foot Navajo Sandstone elevation offers a panoramic vista, towering 2,100 feet above the canyon floor. From this vantage point, the North Fork of the Virgin River gracefully carves its path, draining precipitation runoff. While the traditional route via the Weeping Rock Trail is currently inaccessible due to a major rockfall since 2019, hikers can still reach Observation Point through the East Mesa Trail. This alternate route presents a relatively easier, calmer, and more peaceful experience, meandering through pines and firs. The East Mesa Trailhead sits outside of Zion National Park. Once at Observation Point, prepare to be captivated by the views. Iconic landmarks such as the Great White Throne, Cathedral Mountain, and Angels Landing dominate the landscape. The elevated vantage point provides a unique perspective of Zion Canyon and its dramatic eastern rim.
