Suspended high above the lush, biodiverse Nyungwe National Park, the Canopy Walkway offers a thrilling and unique perspective of one of Africa's oldest rainforests. This 160-meter long bridge provides breathtaking views of the forest canopy, allowing visitors to spot wildlife and experience the beauty of nature from a different vantage point.

Local tips
- Wear comfortable hiking shoes and a lightweight raincoat, as the forest can be muddy and rain is common.
- Book your canopy walk in advance, as there are limited slots available at 8 am, 10 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.
- Bring bottled water and snacks to enjoy during the walk.
- Hire a walking stick at the Uwinka Reception Centre for added stability on the trails.

Driving
From Butare (Huye), the Canopy Walkway is accessible by road, approximately a 1.5- to 2-hour drive to the Nyungwe National Park's Uwinka Reception Center. Car hires can cost around 40,000 RWF per day. Roads are generally well-maintained, but can be winding. From the Uwinka Reception Center, it's about an hour's walk to the Canopy Walkway.

Public Transport
To reach Nyungwe National Park using public transport, take a bus from Kigali's Nyabugogo Bus Station to Butare. This takes about 3-4 hours and costs 2,500-3,500 RWF. From Butare, transfer to another bus heading to Gisakura, near Nyungwe Forest National Park, for 1,500-2,500 RWF. From Gisakura, a taxi or moto to the park entrance costs 5,000-10,000 RWF. Buses from Kigali to Rusizi also stop at the Uwinka Center, but the journey can take up to 8 hours.
