Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Take the RN1 highway southbound toward Huye. After approximately 130 km, you will reach Huye, where you can stop for supplies or rest. From Huye, continue on the RN6 towards Nyungwe National Park, which is about 55 km away. The drive offers beautiful views of the Rwandan countryside. Once you arrive at the park entrance, you may need to pay an entrance fee, which is approximately $60 for international tourists. Make sure to have local currency available.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Nyungwe National Park using public transportation, take a bus from Kigali to Huye. Buses leave from the Nyabugogo bus station and the journey takes around 2-3 hours. After reaching Huye, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to the park entrance, which is about 55 km away. Expect to pay around $20-30 for the taxi or a smaller fare for the local bus. Again, be prepared for entrance fees to the park, around $60.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, cycling from Kigali to Nyungwe is an option. The journey will take significantly longer than driving or using public transport, typically 6-7 hours, depending on your pace and stops. You can rent a bicycle in Kigali and follow the same route via RN1 to Huye, then RN6 to Nyungwe. Make sure to pack enough food and water for the trip, and consider staying overnight in Huye if needed.

• Tour Operator

  Consider booking a guided tour from Kigali, which typically includes transportation to Nyungwe National Park. This option often provides a seamless experience, as transportation, park entrance fees, and sometimes meals are included in the package. Prices vary but expect to pay around $100-150 per person for a day tour. This option is ideal for those who prefer not to navigate independently.
