Unveiling History at Tallac Historic Site

Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from South Lake Tahoe, head south on US-50 E for about 2 miles. After crossing the bridge over the Truckee River, turn left onto Pioneer Trail. Continue on Pioneer Trail for about 3 miles until you reach the intersection with Highway 89. Turn right onto Highway 89 S and follow it for about 1.5 miles. Look for the signs indicating Tallac Historic Site and turn left onto Heritage Way. The site will be on your left at 1 Heritage Way, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. Parking is available on-site.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take the Tahoe Transportation District's Route 50 bus from South Lake Tahoe. Board the bus at any of the designated stops along US-50. Ride the bus until you reach the stop for the Tallac Historic Site. The bus service runs regularly, but check the current schedule on the Tahoe Transportation District's website for exact times. After disembarking, follow the signs to the Historic Site, which is just a short walk away.

• Walking

  If you are already in the vicinity of Tallac Historic Site and prefer to walk, you can take a scenic route from South Lake Tahoe. Start at the South Lake Tahoe Stateline and walk along Lake Tahoe Boulevard heading south. After about 1.5 miles, turn left onto Pioneer Trail. Continue for another mile until you reach the intersection with Highway 89. Turn right and walk approximately half a mile until you see the signs for Tallac Historic Site. The walk is approximately 3 miles one way, so wear comfortable shoes.
