Experience Sogenji Temple

Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving from central Hitachi, head northeast on Route 6 towards Mito. Continue for about 30 km until you reach the junction with Route 293. Merge onto Route 293 and follow the signs towards Taito City. Once you enter Taito City, continue on until you reach Matsugaya. Sogenji Temple is located at 3 Chome-7-2 Matsugaya. There is parking available near the temple, but be sure to check for any parking fees.

  • Train

    To reach Sogenji Temple using public transportation, start at Hitachi Station. Take the Joban Line towards Ueno. You will need to transfer at Mito Station to the Suigun Line towards Toride. Get off at Asakusa Station. From Asakusa, transfer to the Tsukuba Express and head towards Matsugaya Station. Once you arrive at Matsugaya, it is a short 10-minute walk to Sogenji Temple. Follow Matsugaya Street north until you reach the temple. Be prepared for a train fare of approximately 1,500 yen.

  • Bus

    You can also take a bus from Hitachi to Sogenji Temple. Start at Hitachi Bus Terminal and catch the bus heading towards Taito City. Check the bus schedules as they may vary. The bus ride will take about 1 hour. Once you get off at the nearest bus stop to Sogenji Temple, it will be a 15-minute walk. Make sure to have some coins ready for the bus fare, which is around 1,000 yen.
