If you are traveling by car from Zao Onsen to Sendai Castle Honmaru Great Hall Ruins, start by heading east on Route 286 toward Sendai. After approximately 30 km (about 40 minutes), take the exit for Sendai West IC on the Tohoku Expressway. Follow the signs for Sendai and merge onto Route 48. Continue on Route 48 for about 5 km until you reach the Aoba Ward area. Look for signs directing you to Kawauchi, where the ruins are located. There is limited parking near the site, so be prepared to park and walk a short distance to the ruins. Note that parking fees may apply depending on the lot you choose.

To reach Sendai Castle Honmaru Great Hall Ruins via public transportation from Zao Onsen, first take the Zao Onsen bus to the nearest major station, which is Yamagata Station. The bus ride will take around 30 minutes. From Yamagata Station, take a Shinkansen (bullet train) to Sendai Station, which takes about 40 minutes. Once you arrive at Sendai Station, transfer to the Sendai City Bus (Route 99) and alight at the 'Sendai Castle' stop.
