Experience Babson Creek Preserve

Getting There

  • Car

    From the town of Bar Harbor, take Route 3 towards Mount Desert Island. Follow Route 3 for about 5 miles until you reach the intersection with Route 198. Turn left onto Route 198, then continue for about 3 miles. When you reach the intersection with the Crooked Road, turn right. You will see the entrance to Babson Creek Preserve on your left after approximately 1 mile. There is no entry fee, and parking is available at the preserve.

  • Public Transportation

    If you are using public transportation, take the Island Explorer bus from Bar Harbor. Look for the Route 2 or Route 3 bus that will take you towards the south side of Mount Desert Island. Get off at the stop near Route 198. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 miles down Route 198 until you reach the intersection with Crooked Road. Turn right onto Crooked Road, and the entrance to Babson Creek Preserve will be on your left. Be sure to check the Island Explorer schedule for bus times, as they may vary by season.

  • Bicycle

    For those who prefer cycling, you can rent a bike in Bar Harbor. Cycle along Route 3 towards Mount Desert Island for about 5 miles. Then turn left onto Route 198. Continue cycling for about 3 miles. When you reach Crooked Road, turn right, and after about 1 mile, you will find the entrance to Babson Creek Preserve on your left. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow the traffic rules. There are no fees for entering the preserve.
