Parcul Central: Vatra Dornei's Green Heart

Parcul Central, located in the heart of Vatra Dornei, is more than just a park; it's a historical and natural landmark that has been a focal point of the town for over a century. Stretching across 50 hectares, this dendrological reserve is home to rare species of tall, old trees and is known for its high-quality air ionization, making it a therapeutic place for leisurely walks.The park is famous for its friendly squirrels, which have become a major attraction. Visitors, especially children, delight in feeding them nuts, creating memorable moments. You can even buy bags of nuts at the park entrance.Within the park, you'll find several points of interest, including the Parc mineral water spring, the Japanese Pavilion, and the Holy Trinity Church. The Sentinela Spring, built in 1896, has a rich history, having been named after a minister of agriculture of the Austro-Hungarian Empire before being renamed in honor of a patriotic cultural society. The park also features a statuary group with busts of prominent Romanian cultural figures.While in the area, take note of the Cazinoul (Casino), a historical monument built in 1896 that once served as a casino, concert hall, and workers' club. Although currently in ruins, it stands as a reminder of Vatra Dornei's vibrant past.Throughout the year, Parcul Central hosts various events, including the “Serbările Zăpezii” (Snow Festivities), a series of winter sports competitions and concerts.
