Public Bus
From the center of Carlsbad, walk to the nearest bus stop that services Route 1. Board the bus heading towards the Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Stay on the bus for approximately 20 minutes until you reach the stop closest to the park entrance. From there, follow the signs to the hiking trails that lead to Cowles Mountain, which is approximately a 15-minute walk from the bus stop.
Bike Rental
Head to a local bike rental shop in downtown Carlsbad. Rent a bike and start heading west on Main Street. Continue riding until you reach the intersection with Highway 62. Turn right and follow the highway for about 5 miles, then take the exit for Cowles Mountain. Follow the signs to the parking area, where you can lock your bike and start your hike.
Walking
If you're in the downtown area of Carlsbad, you can start your walk by heading west on Main Street. Continue straight for about 1 mile until you reach the intersection with Highway 62. Cross the highway at the traffic signal and continue walking straight until you see the signs for Cowles Mountain. The walk will take approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on your pace.
