Walking
If you are in downtown Carlsbad, head south on South Canal Street until you reach the intersection with West Texas Street. Turn left onto West Texas Street and continue walking until it merges with US-62 E. Follow US-62 E for about 2 miles. You will then need to take a left onto South 1st Street and continue on this road. After about 1.5 miles, you will reach the intersection with South 8th Street. Turn right onto South 8th Street and walk towards the Carlsbad Caverns Highway, where you will find signage for San Onofre State Beach. The total walking distance is approximately 4 miles and will take about 1.5 hours.

Public Transportation
From the Carlsbad Transit Center, take the bus heading towards the Carlsbad Caverns. Disembark at the stop nearest to the intersection of South 1st Street and Carlsbad Caverns Highway. From there, it’s a short walk to the beach area. Ensure that you check the bus schedule ahead of time, as services may vary throughout the day.

If you have access to a bicycle, start from downtown Carlsbad and head south on South Canal Street. After about 0.5 miles, take a right on West Texas Street. Continue straight as it merges into US-62 E. After 2 miles, turn left onto South 1st Street and then right onto South 8th Street. Follow this road until you see the signs for San Onofre State Beach. The total biking distance is approximately 4 miles and should take around 20-30 minutes.
