Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from the center of Ruhengeri, take the road heading northwest towards Kinigi. Continue on this road for approximately 12 km until you reach the junction near the Volcanoes National Park entrance. Follow the signs for Kinigi and Kwita Izina. The Gorilla Naming Ceremony area is located at the coordinates HH9X+C2M, near the park headquarters. Parking is available on-site, but it is advisable to arrive early as spots can fill quickly.

  • Public Transportation

    From Ruhengeri, you can take a public bus or shared taxi heading towards Kinigi. The buses leave frequently from the main bus station. Inform the driver of your destination (Kwita Izina or Kinigi) when you board. The ride takes about 30 minutes and costs around 1,000 RWF. Once you arrive at Kinigi, you can either walk (about 15 minutes) or hire a local motorcycle taxi (known as 'moto') to take you directly to the Gorilla Naming Ceremony location.
