History of Bithynia

Bithynia's roots trace back to the Phrygians, an ancient Indo-European people who settled in the region around the 13th century BCE. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Bithynia remained a crucial region within the Byzantine Empire. The area saw numerous religious and political developments, including the construction of notable churches and monasteries. The city of Nicaea (modern-day İznik) hosted the First Council of Nicaea in 325 CE, which was pivotal in the establishment of early Christian doctrine.
