    The Dead Giant Tunnel Tree is located in the Tuolumne Grove, near Crane Flat in Yosemite National Park. From Yosemite Valley, take Highway 120 west towards Crane Flat. From the west, continue on Highway 120 past the Big Oak Flat entrance. The Tuolumne Grove trailhead is located 0.6 miles past the Crane Flat gas station. Limited free parking is available at the trailhead. Be aware that the Tioga Road (Highway 120 east of Crane Flat) is typically closed from November to May due to snow. Park entry fee is $35 per vehicle, valid for 7 days.

    From the Tuolumne Grove trailhead, follow the Old Big Oak Flat Road downhill for approximately 1 mile. The trail descends about 400 feet to the Tuolumne Grove. At the bottom of the initial descent, you'll reach a junction with a short loop trail that leads to the Dead Giant Tunnel Tree. Follow the loop to the right to reach the tree. The hike is considered moderately strenuous due to the uphill return. Remember to stay on marked trails to protect the sensitive sequoia habitat.

In fact, it became one of the park's main entrances. Although cars are no longer allowed to drive through it, visitors can still walk through the tunnel and marvel at the tree's immense size. The tunnel is about 10 feet wide and 8 feet tall. The Tuolumne Grove itself is home to approximately two dozen mature giant sequoias, scattered within a forest of Douglas fir, sugar pine, and incense cedar. A 2.5-mile trail leads through the grove, passing the Dead Giant and other impressive trees. The trail is considered moderately strenuous due to the 500 feet of elevation change. Informative placards along the trail provide details about the tree's history and the surrounding ecosystem.
