Car
From Kumamoto City, take the Kyushu Expressway (E3) towards Aso. Exit at Aso Interchange and follow Route 57 towards Aso. After approximately 30 minutes, you will arrive at the Aso Nakadake Crater area. Follow signs to Kurokawa, Aso 869-2225. There is a parking area near the crater site, which may incur a parking fee of approximately 500 yen.

Public Transportation - Train
Take the JR Hōhi Line from Kumamoto Station to Aso Station. The journey takes about 1 hour. Once at Aso Station, transfer to a local bus bound for Aso Nakadake Crater. Buses are available approximately every 30 minutes. The bus ride takes around 30 minutes to reach the crater area. A one-way bus fare is approximately 1,000 yen.

Public Transportation - Bus from Aso Station
After arriving at Aso Station via the JR Hōhi Line, take the Aso Sanbangai bus that goes directly to Aso Nakadake. The buses operate frequently, so check the schedule upon your arrival. It’s important to confirm the bus schedule as it may vary based on the day of the week and the season. The fare is around 1,000 yen one way.
