Getting There

  • Public Transport

    If you are starting from Kyoto Station, take the Karasuma Subway Line (green line) towards Kokusaikaikan. Get off at Shijo Station (5 stops, about 10 minutes). From Shijo Station, take Exit 1 and walk north towards Shijo-dori (Shijo Street). Continue walking straight for about 10 minutes until you reach the intersection with Sanjo-dori (Sanjo Street). Turn right on Sanjo-dori and continue until you reach the Kamo River. The Shirakawa Bridge will be on your left after crossing the river.

  • Walking

    If you are in the Gion area, head northeast towards the Shirakawa Canal. Walk along the canal street (Shirakawa-dori) until you reach the Shirakawa Bridge. It is a pleasant walk, and you will enjoy the traditional wooden machiya houses and cherry blossom trees along the way.

  • Public Transport

    From Kyoto's Gion area, you can take bus number 100 or 206 from Gion Shijo bus stop. Ride the bus for 3 stops and get off at Sanjo Keihan Station. From there, walk east along Sanjo Street for about 5 minutes until you reach the Kamo River. The Shirakawa Bridge will be just along the river on your left.
