Getting There

  • Car

    If you're traveling by car, take the Yamagata Expressway from any major city in Tohoku. Get off at the Yamagata-Zao Interchange and follow the signs to Zaoonsen (蔵王温泉). The drive should take approximately 30 minutes from the interchange. Note that parking is available at the Zaoonsen area, but parking fees may apply.

  • Public Transportation - Train

    To reach Zaō Quasi-National Park by train, take the JR Yamagata Shinkansen to Yamagata Station. From Yamagata Station, transfer to the Yamagata City Bus heading towards Zaoonsen. The bus ride takes about 40 minutes, and bus fares are approximately 500 yen. Ensure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may be limited.

  • Public Transportation - Bus

    Alternatively, you can take a direct bus from Sendai to Zaoonsen. The bus departs from Sendai Station and takes about 1.5 hours. The fare is around 2,000 yen. Once you arrive at Zaoonsen, follow the signs to the entrance of Zaō Quasi-National Park.
