Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Almaty city center. Head east on Dostyk Avenue towards the Almaty Mountains. Follow signs for the Medeu skating rink, which is approximately 15 km from downtown Almaty. After reaching Medeu, continue on the road towards Shymbulak ski resort. The road will lead you up into the mountains. Keep driving for about 10 km until you reach the Shymbulak ski resort area. From here, you will need to park your car in the designated parking area. Note that parking fees may apply, typically around 500-1000 KZT per hour. After parking, proceed to the cable car station.

Once you've parked your car at Shymbulak, purchase a ticket for the cable car, which will take you to the upper station of the ski resort. The ticket costs approximately 3000 KZT for a round trip. Enjoy the scenic views during the ride, which lasts about 15-20 minutes. Disembark at the top station, which is the starting point for the hiking trails leading to Bogdanovicha Glacier.

Hiking
From the upper cable car station, follow the marked trail that leads towards Bogdanovicha Glacier. The trail is approximately 7 km and will take about 2-3 hours to hike, depending on your pace. The path is well-defined, but be prepared for rocky terrain and steep inclines. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks, as there are no facilities along the trail. Keep an eye out for trail markers to stay on the correct path. As you ascend, you will be treated to stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

If you prefer public transportation, take a bus or marshrutka (minibus) from Almaty to Medeu. Buses leave from various points in the city, including the Sayran bus station.
