Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from the Scottish Highlands, take the A9 southbound towards Edinburgh. Follow signs for Edinburgh and continue onto the A720 (City Bypass). Exit onto the A71 and follow it until you reach the city center. Once in Edinburgh, follow signs for the Old Town and Castle. There are several parking options available near the castle, such as the Castle Terrace Car Park (postcode EH1 2EW). Parking fees apply, typically around £1.20 per hour.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  For those traveling by bus, you can take a service from major towns in the Highlands to Edinburgh. Look for buses operated by companies like Citylink or Megabus. Once you arrive at Edinburgh Bus Station, it's about a 15-20 minute walk to the castle. Head northwest on St Andrew’s Street, then take a left onto George IV Bridge, and follow it until you reach the Royal Mile. Continue up to Castlehill where the castle entrance is located. Alternatively, you can catch a local bus (Lothian Buses) from the bus station to get closer to the castle.

• Public Transportation (Train)

  If you prefer traveling by train, take a train from Inverness or Fort William to Edinburgh Waverley Station, which is located in the city center. From Waverley, you can either walk (about 10 minutes) or take a local bus. To walk, exit the station and head towards the Royal Mile, then walk up to Castlehill. There are also taxis available outside the station for a quicker route, which could cost around £5-£10 depending on traffic.
