Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start by heading south from Hida towards Route 158. Take Route 158 until you reach the town of Matsumoto. From Matsumoto, follow the signs to Kamikochi, which will lead you onto Route 476. Continue on Route 476 until you reach the Kamikochi entrance. Note that there is a parking fee of approximately 1,000 yen at the Kamikochi visitor center. Once parked, you will need to take a shuttle bus (approximately 1,000 yen round trip) to the Kamikochi area as private vehicles are not allowed in the park.

  • Public Transportation

    For those using public transportation, take a train from Hida to Matsumoto Station. From Matsumoto Station, transfer to the Matsumoto Electric Railway and take the train to Shin-shimashima Station. At Shin-shimashima Station, board a bus to Kamikochi (the bus fare is about 2,500 yen one way). The bus will take you directly to the Kamikochi entrance. Once at Kamikochi, you can walk to the Stone Monument, which is a short distance from the bus stop.
