    If you're driving from the Kyoto countryside, take the Meishin Expressway towards Otsu. The drive will take approximately 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. After exiting the expressway at the Otsu IC, follow the signs for Biwa Lake (琵琶湖). You can park at one of the designated parking areas near the lake, which typically charge around 500-1000 yen for parking. Once parked, you can easily walk to the lakeshore.

    To reach Biwa Lake by public transportation, take the JR Kyoto Line from Kyoto Station towards Otsu Station. The train ride takes about 30 minutes and the fare is approximately 500 yen. Upon arriving at Otsu Station, follow the signs to the bus terminal. From there, take the number 20 or 21 bus towards Biwa Lake. The bus ride will take another 15-20 minutes. A bus fare is around 300 yen. Get off at the Biwa Lake stop, and you'll find yourself at the lakeshore.
