Getting There

  • Public Transit

    If you are starting from Kyoto Station, take the Karasuma Line (subway) towards Kokusaikaikan. Get off at Shijo Station. From Shijo Station, transfer to the Hankyu Kyoto Line and take a train towards Kawaramachi. Get off at Kawaramachi Station. Once you exit the station, head east towards Shijo-dori, and continue straight until you reach the Gion area. Follow the signs to Yasaka Shrine.

    From Gion area, walk towards Yasaka Shrine. You will see the large red gate of Yasaka Shrine (Hōnen Matsuri). Continue through the shrine grounds until you reach the Yasaka Jinja Nishiromon Gate (Western Tower Gate) located at 625 Gionmachi Kitagawa, Higashiyama Ward. It is directly accessible from the main path leading into the shrine.

  • Bus

    If you are near the Kyoto City Hall or any central point in Kyoto, you can take Bus No. 206 or 100. Get off at the Gion bus stop. From the bus stop, walk east towards the main entrance of Yasaka Shrine, which is well-signposted. The Nishiromon Gate is at the western side of the shrine complex.
