Car
If you're starting from any location in Eastern Montana, the best way to reach Ptarmigan Tunnel is by car. Begin by navigating to US-2 W, a major highway that runs across the northern part of Montana. Once on US-2 W, continue until you reach the junction with MT-49 S. Take MT-49 S towards Glacier National Park. As you approach the park, follow signs for the Many Glacier area. The closest parking area is at the Many Glacier Hotel. From there, you will need to hike approximately 6.5 miles on the Ptarmigan Tunnel Trail to reach the tunnel. Please note that there may be a parking fee at the Many Glacier area.

Public Transportation
Public transportation options to Ptarmigan Tunnel are limited. However, you can take a Greyhound bus to the closest major city, which is Kalispell, MT. From Kalispell, you will need to rent a car or arrange for a shuttle service to reach Glacier National Park. Once in the park, follow the same directions as above to reach the Many Glacier area and hike to Ptarmigan Tunnel. Be aware that public transport schedules might not align perfectly with your travel plans, so check in advance.
