Getting There

  • Hiking

    If you're starting from the Apgar Visitor Center, head east on the Going-to-the-Sun Road for about 1.5 miles. You will come to the Avalanche Creek area. Follow the signs for Avalanche Lake Trailhead. The trailhead is located on the south side of the road, and there is a marked parking area. If you don't have access to a vehicle, consider hiking from the visitor center along the road, but be cautious as it is shared with vehicles.

  • Shuttle Bus

    During the summer months, Glacier National Park offers a shuttle service. From any of the major areas, such as the Apgar Visitor Center or Lake McDonald Lodge, you can take the shuttle that goes towards Logan Pass and get off at the Avalanche Lake stop. This will drop you off right at the Avalanche Lake Trailhead.

  • Biking

    You can rent a bike at the Apgar Visitor Center. From there, bike along the Going-to-the-Sun Road heading east for about 1.5 miles towards Avalanche Creek. Be sure to wear a helmet and follow all park regulations regarding biking on the road.
