Getting There

  • Hiking

    From the Apgar Visitor Center, start your hike on the Trail of the Cedars. Follow the signs for the Avalanche Lake Trail. The hike to Avalanche Lake is about 5 miles one way and is moderately challenging. Once you reach Avalanche Lake, enjoy the stunning views before continuing towards the base of the cliffs. Look for the trail that leads up to the cliffs where the Triple Arches are located. This section may be steep and rocky, so be prepared for some elevation gain.

    If you are starting from the Lake McDonald Lodge, take the same Trail of the Cedars trailhead. Follow the trail for approximately 1 mile until you reach the Avalanche Lake junction. Turn left towards Avalanche Lake and follow the trail. This hike is about 5 miles to the lake. Once at the lake, hike around to the right side of the lake, and you will find the trail leading up to the cliffs that hold the Triple Arches.

  • Public Transportation

    Take the free park shuttle from the Apgar Visitor Center to the Avalanche Campground stop. From there, follow the Avalanche Lake Trail. The trail is well-marked and leads directly to Avalanche Lake, approximately 5 miles one way. After reaching the lake, look for the trail leading to the cliffs where the Triple Arches are located.
