Train & Cremallera
The most common approach to Puigmal is from the Spanish side, starting in Vall de Núria. From Barcelona, take the Renfe R3 Rodalies train to Ribes de Freser. From Ribes de Freser, transfer to the Cremallera de Núria rack railway to reach the Núria resort. From Núria, several hiking trails lead to the summit of Puigmal. A combined Renfe + Cremallera ticket (TreNatura) is available and is cheaper than buying tickets separately. The hike from Vall de Núria to the summit takes approximately 4-5 hours. Cost: * Renfe R3 train from Barcelona to Ribes de Freser: €11-€21 (one way) * Cremallera de Núria rack railway (round trip): €33.50
Driving
Another option is to drive to the Collet de les Barraques, though this route may be more challenging. From Bourg-Madame, take the N116 towards Sallagosa and follow the detour to the old Puigmal ski resort. A paved road leads to a parking area at approximately 1990 meters. From there, follow the hiking trails to the summit. Cost: * Tolls: Varies depending on the route. * Parking: Free at the parking area near the old ski resort.
