From Kerlingarfjöll, head east on the road towards the main highway, Route 1 (Þjóðvegur 1). Continue driving for approximately 90 km until you reach the junction for Route 998, which leads towards Vatnajökull National Park. Follow Route 998 for about 25 km until you reach the entrance of the park. Note that some parts of Route 998 may be unpaved and require a 4x4 vehicle for easier access.
