If you are traveling by car from the Northwestern Region, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading east. Continue on Route 1 for approximately 200 kilometers. You will pass through several small towns like Blönduós and Varmahlíð. Keep an eye out for signs pointing towards Vatnajökull National Park. Just after reaching the town of Höfn, take the exit onto Route 998 toward the park entrance. Follow the signs for the visitor center, which is located at Klapparstígur 25, 101 27. Be aware of possible road conditions and ensure your vehicle is suitable for Icelandic terrain. There may be parking fees at certain sites within the park.
