Getting There

• Walking

  If you are in Gion, a great way to reach Shirakawa Lane is to walk from the main street, Hanamikoji Street. Head southeast on Hanamikoji Street, enjoying the traditional machiya houses along the way. After about a 5-minute walk, turn right onto Shijo Avenue. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Shirakawa Canal. At this point, turn left and walk along the canal until you reach Shirakawa Lane, which will be on your right. The walk is scenic, taking you through a picturesque area filled with cherry blossoms in spring and beautiful lanterns at night.   From your location in Gion, you can take a bus to get closer to Shirakawa Lane. Head to the nearest bus stop, which is likely to be 'Gion' or 'Shijo Kawaramachi.'
