Getting There

  • Walking

    If you're starting from Nara Park, head south towards the Great South Gate (Nandaimon). From the gate, turn left and walk along the path until you reach the entrance of Todai-ji. Continue straight until you see the Hokkedo (Sangatsudo) on your right. The entire walk should take about 15-20 minutes.

    From Nara Station, exit the station and head towards the main shopping street (Sanjo-dori). Walk straight along Sanjo-dori for about 15 minutes until you reach Nara Park. Once you enter the park, follow the path towards the Great South Gate (Nandaimon). After passing the gate, turn left and proceed to Todai-ji Hokkedo, which will be on your right. This route usually takes about 30 minutes.

    From Nara Station, you can take the 'Nara City Loop Bus' (also known as the Nara Loop Bus). Board the bus and get off at 'Todai-ji Daibutsuden' stop.
