Discover more about Weeping Rock Trail

The Weeping Rock Trail is a must-see attraction in Zion National Park, offering a unique experience where water emerges from the sandstone cliffs, creating a desert oasis. This short, paved trail leads to a large, bowl-shaped alcove where you can witness the phenomenon of water 'weeping' from the rock. The water originates from rain and snow that has slowly filtered through the Navajo sandstone over centuries. As the water reaches an impermeable layer of rock, it is forced out, creating a constant dripping that nourishes a hanging garden of lush vegetation. The dripping water and the shaded alcove create a cool, refreshing environment, a stark contrast to the surrounding desert landscape. The trail is relatively short, making it accessible for families and those with limited endurance. From the platform at the end of the trail, visitors can enjoy views of Zion Canyon and the unique hanging gardens. The Weeping Rock Trail also serves as a starting point for more strenuous hikes, such as Observation Point and Hidden Canyon. However, due to rockfall, the area near Weeping Rock is temporarily closed, and visitors should check the park's website for current conditions.
