Discover more about Raro Reef Sub

The Raro Reef Sub offers a unique semi-submersible adventure, allowing visitors to explore Rarotonga's underwater world in comfort. Departing from Avatiu Harbour, adjacent to Avarua, this tour provides stunning island views from the observation deck. Descend below deck to witness vibrant marine life, including giant trevally, tropical fish, stingrays, turtles, and eels. During whale season, humpback whales may also be spotted. The highlight is the century-old shipwreck, the RMS Maitai, which sank in 1916. The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours and is suitable for all ages. The vessel is designed for a comfortable viewing experience through large glass windows. Although the coral may appear damaged due to natural events, the shipwreck and coral-encrusted artifacts offer a unique glimpse into underwater history. Bookings are essential, especially during peak season. The Raro Reef Sub provides a safe and enjoyable experience for families, with charter options available for groups. Note that the vessel is not a submarine but a sturdy steel boat with slanting windows, and those with mobility issues may find the ladder to the hull challenging.
