Helsingør Cemetery is a historic burial ground in the heart of Denmark's most famous literary town, founded in the second half of the 16th century as a burial place for the poor before becoming the city's principal cemetery in the 1820s. Located adjacent to the ferry terminal and close to the medieval town center, it serves as both a peaceful green space and a repository of local history, featuring notable monuments including sculptor Rudolph Tegner's bronze family memorial.

A narrow, atmospheric medieval alley in Helsingør's historic harbor district, Gl.Færgestræde (Old Ferry Street) connects the main thoroughfare to the waterfront much as it did in the 1500s. Lined with tilted townhouses painted in warm yellows and browns, the street features original uneven cobblestones, an open central gutter, and period gas lamps that evoke centuries past. Closed off and forgotten for nearly 200 years, it was restored in 1911 and remains one of Denmark's most evocative glimpses into medieval maritime life.

Tucked into Helsingør’s atmospheric old town on Sct Anna Gade, ‘The Middle Ages and the Sound Dues’ is a striking gable mural that turns a blank wall into a vivid history lesson. Created in 2012 by Italian artists Lara Atzori and Piercarlo Carella, it brings to life the era when ships from across Europe queued in the Øresund and paid the tolls that made Elsinore rich. Detailed figures, ships and architectural motifs echo the nearby cathedral and harbour, making this free open-air artwork a rewarding stop on any stroll between the old town and Kronborg Castle.

Saint Olai Church, Helsingør’s red-brick cathedral, rises above the medieval streets just a short stroll from Kronborg Castle. It remains a working parish church with regular services and concerts, offering a calm, atmospheric pause amid Elsinore’s historic harbour life.
