A light-colored granite sarcophagus features an oversized representation of a slant-top bible box, reminiscent of the colonial era when such boxes stored precious volumes. On the face of the granite block is inscribed, 'In memory of those innocents who died during the Salem Village witchcraft hysteria of 1692'. Behind this, a three-panel granite wall displays the names of the victims in 17th-century spelling, along with the date, circumstance of their deaths, and their town of origin. Quotations from eight of the accused are inscribed on the walls, offering their final words of innocence and defiance.The memorial is located at 176 Hobart Street in Danvers, directly across from the site of the original Salem Village Meeting House, where many of the witch examinations took place.
